PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image synthesis method capable of suppressing unnaturalness in the case of synthesizing the image of the face of a user with the person model of a material image.SOLUTION: An image synthesis method for synthesizing the image of the face of a user with a material image in which a person model is recorded while referring to face direction information specifying the direction of the face of the person model includes executing procedures of: controlling photographing means to repeatedly photograph an image including at least the face of the user; determining the direction of the face of the user when the photography is performed by the photographing means; selecting the image of the face of the user suitable for synthesis with the material image as a synthesis object image on the basis of the determination result of the procedure of determining the direction of the face and face direction information corresponding to the material image; and generating a synthesis image by synthesizing the image of the face of the user with the face portion of the material image on the basis of the synthesis object image and the material image.
