PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image taken by a camera, which photographs a vehicle periphery, after visually converting this image into an overhead image, by which a distance between the vehicle and an obstacle around the vehicle during the turn can more easily be grasped.SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery monitoring device comprises: a camera 10 that images a vehicle periphery; an image generating section (ECU) 70 that generates a peripheral overhead image photographed from above the vehicle and generates an imaginary overhead image formed by combining this image with a vehicle periphery overhead image taken by photographing the vehicle from above; a turn detecting section (steering angle sensor) 20 that detects whether the turning direction of the vehicle is a right or left direction; and a display section (display) 80 that, if a turn of the vehicle has not been detected, an imaginary overhead image is displayed in a first display mode in which a direction ahead the vehicle overhead image is an upward direction on a screen and, if a turn of the vehicle has been detected, the imaginary overhead image is displayed in a second display mode in which the image is made larger than in the first display mode, and also a direction ahead of a vehicle overhead image is a turning direction on the screen. |
