PHOSPHORUS BRONZE ALLOY HAVING ANTIBACTERIAL ACTION AND ARTICLE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To verify antibacterial action of phosphorus bronze and provide a method of alleviating discoloration due to contact with the human body and applications capable of utilizing the antibacterial action of phosphorus bronze.SOLUTION: A phosphorus bronze alloy having a composition of 11 wt.% or less (excluding 0) of tin, 0.35 wt.% or less (excluding 0) of phosphorus and remaining copper exerts excellent antibacterial action. Discoloration can be prevented by roughening the surface by grinder processing using an abrasive grain of a grain size of 40-200 or shot-blast processing. Covering parts to come in direct contact with hands, e.g. handrails and door knobs of e.g. medical institutions, with the phosphorus bronze having the antibacterial action prevents propagation of infectious diseases.
