A shroud assembly for a turbine engine having a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine within a casing, with the turbine having a plurality of annularly-arranged fixed vanes defining nozzles therebetween and a plurality of annularly-arranged rotating blades paired with the fixed vanes to define one stage of the turbine, the shroud assembly comprising: a shroud having a front side confronting the blades and a back side opposite the front side; a hanger configured to couple the shroud with the casing; a cooling conduit extending through at least a portion of the hanger to supply a cooling fluid stream to the back side of the shroud; and at least one particle separator having a through passage forming part of the cooling conduit and a scavenge conduit branching from the through passage; wherein the at least one particle separator separates particles from the cooling fluid stream in the form of a concentrated-particle stream containing the separated particles, which is directed along the scavenge conduit, and the remaining cooling fluid stream forms a reduced-particle stream, which is passed along the cooling conduit to the back side of the shroud.
