1. An electrochemical cell, comprising:
a cathode current collector having a continuous layer structure; a cathode layer having a plurality of cathode subregions electrically connected to each other through the continuous layer structure of the cathode current collector, wherein the plurality of cathode subregions are separated by a gap, and wherein the gap is at least partially filled by a dielectric gas; and an electrolyte layer between the plurality of cathode subregions and an anode layer.
