Embodiments of the present invention relate to novel personal care compositions for cleaning and moisturizing the skin or hair comprising an extract of squash and/or pumpkin, a preservative and a cosmetic base. Other embodiments of the present invention relate to methods of making and methods of using the personal care compositions.

A personal care composition for cleaning and/or moisturizing skin and/or hair comprising a cosmetic base and effective amounts of a preservative and an extract of butternut squash and pumpkin, wherein the preservative comprises phenonip and germall, and wherein the extract is obtained from a combination of butternut squash and pumpkin, wherein the amount of butternut squash in the combination is between about 50%-75% (vol %) and the amount of the pumpkin in the combination is between about 25%-50% (vol %).
