<p>Apparatus, methods, and systems for delivering nitric oxide to a disease or cosmetic treatment site involve a nitric oxide (NO) precursor and a reducing agent capable of forming a transient complex with NO contained within a pouch. The NO precursor is separated from the reducing and complexing agent by a removable or breakable barrier. Nitric oxide production and release is activated by breaking or removing the barrier to allow NO precursor to mix with the reducing/complexing agent, which may optionally act as an indicator of NO concentration in a device. NO release from the device is regulated by the ratio of NO precursor to reducing/complexing agent and/or the thickness of a NO permeable membrane located between the compartment and a treatment site.</p> |
