摘要 341,588. Cutting webs during the manufacture of paper bags. DOBECKMUN CO., 1311, West 80th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Becker, L. A., 1302, Lakeland Avenue, and Munson, J. M. ; 1603, Rosewood Avenue, both in Lakewood, Ohio, U.S.A.) Oct. 31, 1929, No. 33165. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1928. [Class 31 (i).] In forming paper bags &c. from a web of cellulose sheeting, the sheet is cut by a slit having at one end a curve and is severed by a cut intersecting the slit at the curve. Diagonal cuts terminating in curved portions are made in a web drawn from a roll and form the lateral boundaries of the flaps formed after the web has been folded longitudinally along lines which intersect the cuts, to form a tube. The tube is cut transversely at E, Fig. 24, on its upper side and at F on its lower side. Feeding, slitting and tube forming mechanism. Web A from a roll 1 is drawn by rolls 14, 15 past a guide roller 12 driven from a shaft 25 itself driven by worm gearing from a main shaft 17, supported by a bracke 18 on the main frame 7 of the machine. The roll 15 carries knives which effect the cuts B and the web is thereafter formed into a tube with the cuts extending around its edges. Tube-cutting mechanism. The transverse cuts E, F, Fig. 24, which separate the tube into bag lengths are made against a cutter block 130, Fig. 5, carried by thin bars 88 adapted to slide in shallow grooves cut in the upper surface of a tube former 85. The rear ends of the bars 88 are connected by a cross-piece 132 secured to a pillar 135 mounted upon a bracket 138 ; the bracket 138 is supported by pins 140 which are reciprocated in a block 142 secured to a bracket 56, the reciprocation being effected by a rod 145 secured to a spring- pressed cam-operated lever 146. By this arrangement, the cutter block moves forward with the web during the cuttir g operation. The cutter block 130 is provided with upper and lower cutting grooves 160, 161, Fig. 15, for the reception of cutter blades 166 which are formed with small sharp teeth. To hold the material during the cutting operation; the blades 166 are disposed between spring-pressed rubber pads 168, the blades and pads being mounted in blocks 165 adapted to move towards the web and then with it to effect the cutting operation. Through a driving pinion 185, pinions 186, 192 are driven in one direction and pinions 188, 190 in the opposite direction. The pinions 186, 192 carry crank arms 195 connected by a link 196 on an extension of which the lower knife block is mounted. Similarly, a link 198 on crank arms 197 on the pinions 188, 190, carries the upper knife block. During the cutting operation, arms 175 projecting from the blocks provide support for the cutter block 130 opposite the opposing knife. In a modification, the knife blocks are mounted on rack-bars 265, 266, Fig. 33, movable in a bracket 260 carried by rods 261 which replace the rods 140, Fig. 5. As the bracket 260 advances with the cutter block, a pawl 278, Fig. 33, is caught by a pivotal latch 280 on a fixed part of the machine and rotates a spindle 270 carrying a spur wheel which engages and moves the rack-bars 265, 261 to effect the cutting, whereupon a depending arm 282 on the latch 280 is caught by a pin 283 on an arm 284 on the bracket 260 to release the catch 280 from the pawl 278 and allow a spring to return the rack-bars to their original position.
