A method of manufacturing chewing gum is provided including forming at least one score in a first direction in the chewing gum. A leading portion of the chewing gum is separated along at least one of said one or more scores in a first direction using a first separating mechanism. The first separating mechanism includes a movable member configured to apply a force to the leading portion of the chewing gum.
