Disclosed is an image providing system for a vehicle and a method for operating an image providing system. The image providing system according to an embodiment of this invention comprises: an image input unit to receive an image taken by a camera mounted on the lower part of a side mirror; a side mirror drive unit to fold the side mirror such that the camera heads for the rear of the vehicle, when a folding signal is sensed during driving of the vehicle; and an image output unit to output the image inputted from the image input unit to a display device. According to the present invention, the side mirror is folded during high-speed driving of the vehicle, and the rear of the vehicle is photographed with the camera mounted in the side mirror, so the photographed image can be provided for a user. Accordingly, air resistance of the vehicle is reduced not only to improve fuel efficiency but also to reduce driving noise (wind noise) caused by the side mirror. |
