ROUTING MESSAGES BETWEEN APPLICATIONS

A system and method for enabling the interchange of enterprise data through an open platform is disclosed. This open platform can be based on a standardized interface that enables parties to easily connect to and use the network. Services operating as senders, recipients, and in-transit parties can therefore leverage a framework that overlays a public network.

1. A method for routing a message, the method comprising:
authenticating, by a message interchange network, a sending service; authenticating, by the message interchange network, a receiving service, wherein the receiving service periodically polls the message interchange network for stored messages intended for the receiving service; receiving, by the message interchange network from the sending service, a message intended for the receiving service; storing, by the message interchange network, the message; tracking, by the message interchange network, an expiration time for the message, wherein routing of the message to the receiving service is aborted in response to the expiration time being surpassed; and responsive to the receiving service polling the message interchange network for stored messages and the expiration time not having been surpassed, providing, by the message interchange network, the stored message to receiving service.
