This display system for an excavating machine: obtains, on the basis of information including the direction of the edge of a bucket and being obtained based on information pertaining to the current location and orientation of the excavating machine, of information including a direction that is orthogonal to a target surface, and of information including the direction of a rotation central axis, first target rotation information and second target rotation information which indicate the amount of rotation required of a work machine in order for the edge of the bucket to face the target surface; selects the first target rotation information or second target rotation information on the basis of the obtained first target rotation information and second target rotation information, and of a first angle and second angle which are the smallest and largest values, respectively, for the angles formed by an axis that is orthogonal to the rotation central axis and parallel to an operating plane of the work machine, and imaginary lines that pass through the ends of the rotation central axis and the target surface; and displays an image corresponding to the selected information on the screen of a display device. |
