A headrest that lowers a head receiver when not in use so as to ensure the rearward visibility of a driver while lifting the head receiver when in use enables arbitrary posture adjustment and ensures sufficient shock absorbing performance by internally providing the head receiver (1) with: a forward/backward adjustment mechanism for forward/backward adjustment of the distance from the head of a passenger by a forward/backward tilting motion about a fulcrum in an upper part of the head receiver, with a brake function for regulating backward rotation; a damper mechanism for absorbing shock by rotation in the event of collision; and an ON-OFF switch mechanism that switches on or off the forward/backward adjustment mechanism and the damper mechanism, and is characterized in that a lower part rotation about the fulcrum in the upper part is combined with a lowering of the head receiver, whereby the head receiver (1) can be prevented from interfering with the rearward visibility of the driver. |
