A process includes dissolving a polyester resin in an organic solvent to form a solution, the polyester resin has a latex-destabilizing cation, removing substantially all of the latex-destabilizing cation, neutralizing the solution of the polyester resin, adding a sufficient amount of water to the neutralized solution form an emulsion, and removing a portion of the organic solvent from the emulsion to form a latex of the polyester resin. |

1. A process for preparation of latex comprising:
dissolving a polyester resin in an organic solvent to form a solution, wherein the polyester resin has a latex-destabilizing cation and the latex-destabilizing cation is present in an insoluble fraction of the solution, and further wherein the insoluble fraction forms after a delay period of about 2 hours to about 96 hours following the dissolving step; removing the latex-destabilizing cation, wherein removing the latex-destabilizing cation comprises filtration, decantation, centrifugation, or combinations thereof after the delay period; neutralizing the solution of the polyester resin; adding a sufficient amount of water to the neutralized solution to form an emulsion; and removing a portion of the organic solvent from the emulsion to form a latex of the polyester resin. |
