PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outboard motor which can reduce the distance between a drive shaft and a pilot shaft and can continuously operate a water pump during operation of an engine.SOLUTION: An outboard motor includes: a drive shaft 17 that transfers rotational power from an engine; a shift device 4 provided midway along the drive shaft 17; and a water pump 7 that supplies cooling water to the engine. The drive shaft 17 is formed of a first input shaft 171 through which rotational power is transferred from the engine, and a second input shaft 172 through which rotational power is transferred from the first input shaft 171. The shift device 4 includes: an upper gear that rotates together with the first input shaft 171; an intermediate gear that is engaged with the upper gear at all times; and an intermediate shaft that extends rearward from the intermediate gear and rotates together with the intermediate gear. The water pump 7 is provided on a rear side of the shift device 4 and operates according to rotational power transferred to the intermediate shaft. |
