PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal alignment layer that excels in controlling alignment and a pretilt angle of a liquid crystal and has a high voltage holding rate (VHR) as well as a low residual voltage (RDC), a polymer used for the liquid crystal alignment layer, a compound constituting the polymer, and a liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal alignment layer.SOLUTION: The compound is represented by general formula (1). A polyorganosiloxane is provided, which is obtained by hydrolyzing and condensing a composition comprising the above compound; and a liquid crystal alignment layer using the polyorganosiloxane is also provided. |
