The present invention relates to a method and system for controlling an application in a set-top box. The control method comprises: if an application is a horizontal-screen application and if a control device is a first-type device, directly sending gravity sensor data of the first-type device to the application; if the control device is a second-type device, exchanging X-axis data and Y-axis data in gravity sensor data of the second-type device, and then sending the data to the application; if the application is a vertical-screen application and if the control device is the second-type device, directly sending the data to the application; and if the control device is the first-type device, exchanging the X-axis data and the Y-axis data and then sending the data to the application. The present invention enables a variety of control devices to control a horizontal-screen application and a vertical-screen application simply and conveniently, so that the control devices can well control a variety of applications in a set-top box, and a variety of applications can all be installed in the set-top box in an adaptive manner. Therefore, user control is facilitated significantly, and the universality of the set-top box is greatly improved. |
