PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of face detection processing at a high speed by extracting a mask area from an image data to be omitted from the face detection processing without targeting all of the area of the image data.SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging unit for taking an image; a mask area determination section that determines a mask area of an object, which is to be eliminated from a detection processing of feature parts in a part or all of the area in the image data taken by the imaging unit; and a feature part detection section that performs a detection processing of feature part of the object on a detection target area from which the determined mask area is excluded by the mask area determination section from the part or all of the area of the image data taken by the imaging unit.
