The present invention provides a heat ray-absorbing glass plate that has low solar transmittance, high visible light transmittance, and low excitation purity, and a method for producing said glass plate. Provided is a heat ray-absorbing glass plate that includes the elements iron, tin, selenium, cobalt, and sulfur, wherein: the mass ratio of divalent iron, in terms of Fe2O3, within the total iron content, in terms of Fe2O3, is 55% or more; the ratio (Tv/Te) of the visible light transmittance (Tv) (A light source, 2-degree visual field) as stipulated by JIS R 3106 (1998) in terms of a glass plate thickness of 4 mm to the solar transmittance (Te) as stipulated by JIS R 3106 (1998) in terms of a glass plate thickness of 4 mm is 1.5 or more; the visible light transmittance (Tv) (A light source, 2-degree visual field) as stipulated by JIS R 3106 (1998) in terms of a glass plate thickness of 4 mm is more than 65%; and the excitation purity (Pe) as stipulated by JIS Z 8701 (1999) in terms of a glass plate thickness of 4 mm is 7% or less. |
