PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reference electrode capable of being properly used for pH measurement of cell culture solution.SOLUTION: A reference electrode 2 includes: a storage body 6 that stores an internal pole R; a gelatinous or liquid internal liquid 10 that is encapsulated in a sealed space 8 so that the storage body 6 forms the sealed space 8 and contacts to the internal pole R stored in the sealed space 8; gas 12 that is encapsulated in the sealed space 8 together with the internal liquid 10; and a liquid junction part 14 that is formed in a facing-up structure of glass provided in the storage body 6 so that the internal liquid 10 is electrically connected to a sample liquid 42 to be measured.
