An energy input circuit 6 controls electric energy input to the primary coil 3, whereby it is possible to prevent a re-discharge due to blowout to reduce the electrode abrasion of an ignition plug 1, suppress power consumption, and exhibit high ignitability. Since a secondary current is continuously supplied in the same direction in the continuous spark discharge subsequent to the main ignition, a secondary voltage does not alternate from positive to negative, a spark discharge is difficult to interrupt, and it is possible to avoid blowout. Moreover, a combination of the main ignition CDI circuit 5 and the energy input circuit 6 can simplify a circuit configuration, thereby making it possible to achieve size reduction and low cost.
