The present invention relates to an object recognizing device using a three-dimensional depth camera and a control method thereof. The object recognizing device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a light emitting unit which emits first light to the outside according to a preset period; a camera unit which photographs a first image for at least one which is a first object by using the first light, and photographs a second image of the first object by using second light that is sunlight; and a control unit which acquires a third image from which only an effect caused by the second light is removed by comparing the first image with the second image, extracts a light intensity value of the first object by using the third image, and calculates the distance between the first object and a user by using the extracted light intensity value. The light intensity value is in inverse proportion to the square of the distance.
