PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a BC/Si composite material capable of preventing cracks caused during impregnation and breakages caused by metal veins and reducing the variation of a local expansion coefficient.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the composite material comprising a reinforcing material of boron carbide and a matrix of metallic silicon includes a step for impregnating a boron carbide preform with a metallic silicon-containing fused material at ≥1,450°C and ≤1,500°C for 2-6 hours, and a step for taking out the composite material prepared by the impregnation by cooling it. By carrying out the impregnation step at ≥1,450°C, the impregnation is finished even in a short time, and a possibility of cracks can be reduced by carrying out the impregnation step at ≤1,500°C. Thus, the expansion of the composite material caused by the impregnation can be prevented by keeping the impregnation temperature in a low range and shortening the time of the impregnation step. |
