<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate holding member that is used in a substrate tray for transporting and storing a substrate such as a liquid crystal display panel member constituted of a plate-like material including a functional layer at the surface thereof, and is configured to be readily and reliably mountable without using a fixture. <P>SOLUTION: The substrate tray 11 includes a substrate supporting part 13 supported by a frame and holding the substrate from the lower side thereof in a frame inside region of the tray frame by setting a surface direction of the substrate 111 constituted of a plate-like material that is formed into a square shape and has stiffness as a horizontal direction.
