392,190. Making boxes. GIBSON PATENT CONTAINERS, Ltd., 350, George Street, Sydney, Australia. Oct. 31, 1931, No. 30222. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1930. [Class 18.] In a machine for making a box or a lid consisting of a side wall ring 22, Figs. 5 and 9, having flanges 23 seated on a separate bottom disc 24 and secured thereto by a covering 25 which is turned down inside the ring 22 and secured by a disc 27, the covering 25 and bottom disc 24 are placed over the opening 55 of a turning-in device 33 and engaged by a plunger 30 on which the ring 22 is disposed; turning-in members 34, 35 are pivoted below the device 33 to swing in and out and are yieldingly urged inwards to turn the covering over the edge of the ring 22 as the plunger carries the parts 22, 24, 25 through the opening 55 and into a pan 20, the plunger being then withdrawn and the pan lifted so that the members 34, 35 tuck the covering into contact with the inner surfaces of the ring 22 and bottom disc 24. The support 120 for the pan 20 is then withdrawn and the pan slid laterally so that the disc 27 can be inserted to hold the tucked-in portion 26 of the covering in place. The turning-in members may be mounted to swing independently of each other so that boxes or lids of oval, triangular, octagonal or other cross section may be made, the parts 30, 55, 20 being correspondingly shaped. In a modification for making boxes of circular, oval or elliptical cross section, the turning-in members are made of springy material with the lower ends beaded to enclose a coil or yieldable spring and the upper ends clamped underneath the device 33. |
