PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a propulsion device of a ship capable of providing electric energy, by using rotation of a propeller by the relative movement between a hull and water, when the ship navigates based on inertia or anchors.SOLUTION: A propulsion device of a ship is configured as follows. An electric generator 3a is connected to a marine gear interposed between a main engine 1a and a propeller 4a. During navigation, a clutch for transmitting rotation of the main engine 1a to the propeller 4a is connected. During inertial navigation or in harbor, the clutch for transmitting the rotation of the main engine 1a to the propeller 4a is cut off and a clutch for transmitting a torque of the propeller 4a generated by a tidal current to the electric generator 3a is connected, thereby rotating the electric generator 3a. Thus, rotational energy of the propeller 4a which otherwise idles during inertial navigation or in habor is converted into electric energy to be used for various uses. The propulsion device can contribute to energy-saving of a ship. |
