PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon monoxide removal method that can efficiently remove carbon monoxide from a mixed gas containing hydrogen as a main component and a small amount of carbon monoxide in a practically useful GHSV region to 1×10volume% or less while suppressing the loss of the hydrogen.SOLUTION: A carbon monoxide removal method includes a pretreatment step, and a methanation step of passing carbon monoxide in a mixed gas after the pretreatment step through a catalyst layer formed by filling a methanation catalyst in a reaction vessel to methanize and remove the carbon monoxide. In the pretreatment step, the concentration of the carbon monoxide in the mixed gas is reduced beforehand by the methanation so that it becomes 0.1 volume% or less. In the methanation step, a carbon monoxide removing catalyst, such as Ru/Mo/alumina, is used as the methanation catalyst to reduce the concentration of carbon monoxide to 1×10volume% or less. |
