PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user participation type place detection system capable of presenting a place name with little strangeness relevant to a present place of a user.SOLUTION: The place detection system includes: registration means that acquires a place name which is input by a user and a piece of information on an access point observed at a place where the input is made, and registers the place name and the information on the access point in a database; score holding means that holds a score according the number of appearances of a combination of the place name and a piece of identification information of the access point while associating therewith based on the data registered in the database; and extraction means that extracts a hierarchy of the place name based on the score.
