The present invention relates to a method to regenerate a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas from a compressed natural gas (CNG) lean burn engine to regenerate by forming a reduction atmosphere in a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas from a CNG lean burn engine having a noble metal with platinum and palladium. The method to regenerate a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas from a deactivated CNG lean burn engine comprises a step of forming a reduction atmosphere in a catalyst, which comprises either a step of controlling an air-fuel ratio or a step of directly injecting CNG fuel into the catalyst.
