The system (1) has a clamping element (5) arranged between an inner sleeve (3) and an outer sleeve (4) such that a pipe (2) to be connected rests on the inner sleeve. The sleeves and the clamping element comprise predetermined axial length in a plug-in direction. The outer sleeve comprises a circumferential seal (41) for co-acting with an outer surface of the inserted pipe, and another circumferential seal (42) for co-acting with the inner sleeve. An axial spacing between the seals is larger than an axial length of the clamping element, which is retianable between the seals. An independent claim is also included for a clamping element for a plug system.
