PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of exclusive components for handling a transaction medium.SOLUTION: An automatic transaction device for executing a variety of transaction processing by communicating with a host computer includes: a medium insertion slot 7a into which media (bill 40 and transaction medium 50) are inserted; a conveyance unit 9 for conveying a medium inserted into the medium insertion slot from the medium insertion slot to a prescribed place (bill storage unit 16, temporary holding unit 17 or medium insertion slot 7a); a discrimination unit 10 that determines whether the conveyed medium is a bill or a transaction medium, recognizes a denomination if the medium is determined to be a bill, and on the other hand recognizes written contents if the medium is determined to be a transaction medium; and a control unit 12 for performing transaction processing on the bases of the written contents recognized by the discrimination unit. |
