PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly active and stable catalyst for efficiently and stably manufacturing propylene from butanol at a high yield, and a method for increasing the conversion ratio of butanol to propylene to the equilibrium composition or more in some way, since the propylene concentration in products cannot be more than the equilibrium composition even using an excellent catalyst.SOLUTION: Raw material butanol and ethylene are reacted at a high temperature of about 550°C, so that the equilibrium composition of ethylene and propylene in the products is increased, and the produced ethylene is separated, purified, and returned to the raw material. Consequently, the conversion ratio of butanol to propylene is increased to, for example, 20% to 30% on carbon basis. A zeolite catalyst H-ZSM-5 is treated with iron nitrate and further treated with phosphoric acid to prepare a catalyst which allows the reaction to stably proceed at a substantially higher yield than conventional catalysts. |
