PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the change of the surface state of an adhesive belt 9 to be easily understood with a sensor without visual observation.SOLUTION: The surface state understanding device of an adhesive belt includes: a distance sensor 25 capable of acquiring distance information to an adhesive layer surface of the adhesive belt 9 having an adhesive layer 7 on a surface of a belt substrate 6; a sensor moving unit 27 for moving the distance sensor 25 in the width direction B of the adhesive belt 9; and a control unit 39 for determining the surface state of the adhesive belt 9 on the basis of the distance information acquired by the distance sensor 25.
