Recombinant production of steviol glycosides

Disclosed is a non-human recombinant host comprising: a gene encoding a geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase; a gene encoding a bi-functional copalyl diphosphate synthase and kaurene synthase or a gene encoding a copalyl diphosphate synthase; a gene encoding a kaurene oxidase; and a gene encoding a steviol synthetase. Wherein at least one of the genes is a recombinant gene and wherein the recombinant host produces steviol.
