BUFFER AND PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

The invention relates to a railway buffer to be used for protecting freight and passenger railway vehicles and locomotives both in the case of usual impacts during exploitation and in the case of violent accidental impacts and to a process for manufacturing the same. The claimed buffer consists of two oval concentric bodies (1 and 2) which can slide into one another, the body (2) having a frontal plate (3) fixed at one end, and the body (1) having another frontal plate (4), the body (2) being provided inside with a membrane (5) closing, by means of a cushion spring (6), the circuit of the force between the two frontal plates (3 and 4), the compression force of the cushion spring (6) being maintained by means of rod (7) fixed on the frontal plate (4) which slides in a hole (a) in the membrane (5) of the internal oval body (2) and by means of a blocking system (8) mounted at the end facing the frontal plate (3) and the oval body (2) is doubled by welding inside a supplemental body (9) for increasing the mechanical strength thereof. The claimed process consists in manufacturing the bodies (1, 2 and 9) of cylindrical pipes with diameter and wall thickness suitable for the sizes and mechanical strength necessary to each body, the pipes being subsequently radially deformed by pressing up to a size as close as possible to the cross-section of each oval body, followed by a calibration of the pipes by means of oval gauge-disks which are passed through the pipe interior or the bodies deformed by pressing are passed through some tapping dies with calibrated oval holes to deform the metal beyond the elasticity limit so that, at the end, the transverse sizes necessary to each oval body are obtained.
