The present invention relates to a formate dehydrogenase expressed by a novel formate dehydrogenase gene and having independent reducing activity, a method for producing a formate dehydrogenase from a strain transformed by a recombinant expression vector including the gene and a method for producing formic acid from carbon dioxide or bicarbonate through the reduction reaction.
