The present invention relates to a compound, more particularly, a betaine compound having double fatty alcohol polyalkoxy ether chains, which can be used for extraction of hydrocarbons, in particular, crude oil, from an underground formation. The compound is particularly useful for alkaline-free surfactants- polymer (SP) flooding techniques in tertiary recovery. The present invention also relates to a process for preparing the compound, a composition comprising the compound and the use thereof.
