The authentication apparatus 2 has: a mounting sensor 32 detecting mounting; a biological information acquisition part 52 which acquires biological information of a user in a mounted state; a biological information evaluation part 54 which performs biometric authentication about the user by detailed collation processing between acquired biological information and biological information for collation or by rough collation processing performed on the basis of collation reference milder than the detailed collation processing; a storage part 44 which holds an authentication result showing success of the biometric authentication by the detailed collation processing in the state that the authentication apparatus 2 is mounted; and a mounting state monitoring part 50 which determines a mounted state of the authentication apparatus 2 to be abnormal when non-coincidence is determined in the rough collation processing. The biological information evaluation part 54 performs biometric authentication by the detailed collation processing when mounting is detected, and when the authentication result is held, biometric authentication by the rough collation processing is performed in a prescribed monitoring period.</p>
