This electricity generation device (1) has: a magnetostrictive rod (2) that allows the passage of lines of magnetic force in the axial direction thereof; a beam member (73) having the function of imparting force on the magnetostrictive rod (2); and a coil (3) disposed in a manner so that lines of magnetic force pass through in the axial direction. The beam member (73) is provided in conjunction with the magnetostrictive rod (2), and is configured in a manner so as to impart contraction stress on the magnetostrictive rod (2) by means of causing one end of the magnetostrictive rod (2) to approach the other. Also, in the electricity generation device (1), the spacing between the beam member (73) and the magnetostrictive rod (2) preferably is smaller at one end of the magnetostrictive rod (2) than the other in a lateral view.
