The optical sensor device (10) has an optical transmission device (12), a receiving device (14) for light emitted from the transmission device and a control device (18) for the transmission device. The transmission device is controlled through the control device so that it transmits a periodical light pulse. The control device comprises an adaptor (40), through which a middle optical power output of the transmission device is adjusted on a constant value depending on the adjustment of the switching distance or the resonsivity. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an optical sensor device.
