418 304. Cigarette lighters combined with lamps &c. FAKES, E. W., Hemsby, Haynes Road, Hornchurch, Essex. April 10, 1933, Nos. 10642 and 10643. [Class 75 (iii).] A mains energized cigarette lighter is carried on a standard and connected with a transformer housed in the base of the standard. As shown in Fig. 4, the lighter 11 is suspended by the flexible leads from the standard 12 of a floor lamp. The lighter is provided with a central contact co-operating with a spring contact operated by a push button, and the leads extend through a moulding 18 to a transformer 15 in the base. The leads of the lamp 13 extend through a similar moulding at the back of the standard and are connected through a switch to the mains terminals. An electric clock or other electrical appliance may also be carried on the standard. In a smokers' stand, the lighter and an ash tray are carried on a platform at the top of the standard. The lighter is removably mounted on a sleeve and adapted to be depressed against a spring for closing the circuit. The transformer may be coated or dipped in a varnish or cellulose solution to prevent hum when the switch is provided in the secondary circuit. As shown in Fig. 8, a standard 29 carries the lighter 24 and a lamp 30 for illuminating advertising matter printed on the inside of a paper covering for an opening 31 in a tube 25 made to represent a cigarette. The lamp 30 and a thermal cut out may be arranged in the primary circuit of the transformer 27. The lighter may be suspended by the leads, which may be wound on a spring reel or weighted. Neon or other gaseous discharge lamps may be used in the floor lamp or the sign lamp and supplied through separate secondary windings of the transformer.
