The invention relates to a method for the recovery of hydrocarbons from an oil reservoir. The method comprises the steps of providing steam, providing nitrogen gas, and optionally other injectants such as carbon dioxide, injecting nitrogen gas and steam and optionally other injectants as an injection mixture into a natural hydrocarbon reservoir, and collecting hydrocarbons displaced by the injection mixture from the natural hydrocarbon reservoir. The method showed great results in lowering the viscosity of viscous oil in relatively deep oil reservoirs.
