Disclosed is an apparatus for encoding and decoding linear predictive coder (LPC) residual signals of a unified speech and audio encoder based on modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT). The apparatus for encoding and decoding LPC residual signals: selects a coding mode for LPC filtered signals by analyzing the characteristics of input signals; and encodes the LPC residual signals based on one among real filter bank, complex filter bank, and algebraic code excited linear prediction (ACLEP).
