A craniostat (20) for an extraoral dental radiographic apparatus (1) includes: a chin rest (52), and a bite (54), which are optionally removable. The bite (54) has a centering surface of predetermined orientation with respect to a centering position of the bite. The bite is blocked in a blocking position by tightening the centering surface against a tightening surface having a predetermined orientation with respect to the bite centering position. In tightened condition, the bite (54) is also automatically moved in accurate centering position on the sagittal plane. Moreover, a method of use of the craniostat is described. |
