The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, improving or treating cardiovascular diseases and, more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cardiovascular diseases, containing serine which is a kind of amino acid, as an active ingredient, and a food composition and a health functional food for improving cardiovascular diseases. The serine according to the present invention may effectively reduce a concentration level of homocystein corresponding to a cardiovascular toxicant and drastically inhibit apoptosis and endoplasmic stress in a cell due to the homocystein. Therefore, the serine according to the present invention can be used as a functional supplement food as well as a medicine like a pharmacological composition as a material which can prevent or treat the cardiovascular diseases, so being expected that the value is very high in the case of being applied in a medical industry and a health functional food industry. Particularly, the serine is low-priced and intrinsic amino acid so almost having no toxicity to be safe even if being used for a long time. |
