<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible improvement in detection accuracy of a particulate object detection apparatus and disconnection detection. <P>SOLUTION: A particulate object detection apparatus 1 is composed of a particulate object detection element 10 in which a pair of detection electrodes 110 and 120 which are confronted at a predetermined interval therebetween are provided on a surface of an insulated substrate 100 and defined as a detection section 11, and a detection circuit section 20 which is connected via a pair of signal lines 112 and 122 and detects a detection resistance R<SB POS="POST">SEN</SB>. In the apparatus, the particulate object detection element 10 includes a first electrostatic capacitance component 13 which is disposed in parallel with the detection resistance R<SB POS="POST">SEN</SB>and the detection circuit section 20 includes a DC power source 21 which supplies a direct current I<SB POS="POST">DC</SB>, an AC power source 22 which supplies an alternating current I<SB POS="POST">AC</SB>, a DC detection portion 23 which detects the direct current I<SB POS="POST">DC</SB>, and an AC detection portion 24 which detects the alternating current I<SB POS="POST">AC</SB>.
