A water level detection apparatus for a washing machine is disclosed. The water level detection apparatus has a water level sensor sensing a water level through a change in capacitance in accordance with the level of water introduced for washing. The water level detection apparatus for a washing machine is capable of sensing the water level only using the sensor without an additional U-shaped pipe or an air tank.
