The purpose of the present invention is to efficiently produce a useful terpenoid compound and, in particular, to provide a production method for squalene being an important intermediate of terpenoid. Said issue can be solved by a hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR) including: (a) an amino acid other than an analine (A) at position 10 in an Sa2 amino acid sequence; (b) an amino acid other than a proline (P) at position 1 from the C end of a DKK area in an HMG-CoA bond site; (c) an amino acid other than an analine (A) at position 1 in an La2 amino acid sequence; and (d) an amino acid other than a glutamic acid (E) at position 6 in an La2 amino acid sequence.
