A wireless transmitter adapter (206) can provide wireless data transmission capability to a battery-operated biosensor meter (100), such as a blood glucose meter, originally configured for hardwired data downloads. In some embodiments, the wireless transmitter adapter (206) can be configured to replace a biosensor meter's battery cover (106). The wireless transmitter adapter (206) can include wireless transmitter circuitry (700), a connector (218) configured to be received in a biosensor meter's communications port (112) to electrically couple to the meter's processor circuitry (107), and one or more electrical contacts (625a, 625b) configured to electrically couple to the biosensor meter's one or more batteries (102a, 102b) to power the wireless transmitter circuitry (700). In other embodiments, the wireless transmitter adapter (206) can be configured to surround at least a portion of a biosensor meter (100) and to include its own battery compartment (804) to separately provide power to the wireless transmitter circuitry (700).
