Method and a device for assessing the consumption of a medium in a supply distribution system using at least one consumption meter, in which the consumption flow values ({dot over (V)}) of the medium consumed are determined based on the consumption values measured over time (Vcum) by the consumption meter. Thereby, a frequency distribution is generated using the consumption flow values ({dot over (V)}), and the consumption is assessed by analyzing the frequency distribution.
